Annette’s story: finding strength, friendship, and confidence through pilates

When I retired and moved to Cornwall, I was looking forward to enjoying more time with family, friends and my growing role as a busy nanny.

Having previously worked as an Early Years Manager, I have always enjoyed keeping active and being involved in my community. These days, life is filled with family time, choir rehearsals, reading, Pilates classes and making the most of everything Cornwall has to offer.

However, before discovering OsteoPilates Cornwall, I had started to notice some unwelcome changes.

Feeling Less Mobile and Less Confident

Although I had always been a sporty and active person, my body was beginning to feel weaker and less mobile.

Everyday movements felt more restricted, and I was experiencing general aches and pains that were starting to impact my quality of life.

After seeing Heather at her clinic for Osteopathy, she suggested Pilates as a way to improve my strength, mobility and overall movement.

Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I've made.

Starting Pilates with OsteoPilates Cornwall

When I first joined the classes, I remember being quite surprised by how difficult I found some of the exercises.

Movements that I had previously taken for granted felt challenging, and I quickly realised there was work to do.

What immediately stood out, however, was the atmosphere.

The classes were warm, friendly and welcoming, making it easy to feel comfortable from the very beginning.

As someone who was relatively new to the area, another unexpected benefit was discovering that many class members stayed for coffee and a chat afterwards. The opportunity to meet new people and build friendships was something that really appealed to me.

Building Strength, Mobility and Confidence

Over the past four years, Pilates has become an important part of my weekly routine.

The guidance and encouragement I receive during classes have helped me improve my technique, understand movements more clearly and progress safely at my own pace.

The changes have been remarkable.

My movement is better, my flexibility has improved significantly and many of the aches and pains I experienced when I first started have reduced.

Most importantly, I feel more capable and confident in my body again.

More Than Just a Pilates Class

Whilst the physical improvements have been fantastic, one of the biggest benefits has been the sense of community.

Through OsteoPilates Cornwall, I have met a wonderful group of friends who have become an important part of my life.

Moving to a new area can sometimes feel isolating, but the friendships and connections I have made through the classes have given me a genuine sense of belonging.

For me, Pilates has been about much more than exercise.

It has been about improving my health, staying active, building confidence and becoming part of a supportive community.

Would I Recommend OsteoPilates Cornwall?

Without hesitation.

The classes are warm, welcoming and suitable for a wide range of abilities. Heather creates an environment where everyone feels supported, regardless of their starting point or experience level.

Whether your goal is to improve strength, mobility, flexibility, confidence or simply meet like-minded people, I would highly recommend giving it a try.

I'm incredibly grateful that I found Heather when I was looking for an Osteopath all those years ago. It has made a lasting difference to both my physical wellbeing and my life in Cornwall.
