jane’s story: how pilates helped me keep strong & flexible in my sixties
As I've moved through my sixties, I've become increasingly aware of changes in my body.
Like many people, I noticed I was feeling stiffer, achier and less flexible than I used to be. Everyday movements weren't quite as easy, and I found myself looking for a form of exercise that could help me maintain mobility and keep me moving well for years to come.
That's what initially led me to OsteoPilates Cornwall.
Looking for Flexibility – Finding Much More
My original goal was simple.
I wanted to improve my flexibility and reduce the stiffness that seemed to be creeping into everyday life.
What I didn't expect was how much I would benefit from the strengthening aspect of Pilates as well.
Whilst increased flexibility was what first attracted me to the classes, developing greater strength has become one of the most valuable and unexpected benefits of attending regularly.
The combination of flexibility, mobility and strength has helped me feel more capable and comfortable in my body.
A Different Experience to Other Pilates Classes
I had attended Pilates classes in the past, but my experience at OsteoPilates Cornwall felt different from the start.
One of the biggest differences is the class size.
In larger classes, it can be difficult for an instructor to give individual attention to everyone. At OsteoPilates Cornwall, the smaller class sizes mean Heather can keep an eye on each participant and offer guidance and adaptations when needed.
That level of support creates confidence.
Knowing that someone is there to help with technique, answer questions and suggest alternatives makes it much easier to feel comfortable and progress safely.
Starting Pilates Can Feel Daunting
Like many people attending a class for the first time, I had a few concerns before I started.
What should I wear?
Would I be able to keep up?
Would everyone else be more experienced than me?
Thankfully, those worries quickly disappeared.
The classes are welcoming, friendly and relaxed. There is no pressure to perform at a certain level, and everyone is encouraged to work at a pace that suits them.
One of the things I particularly value is that exercises can often be adapted depending on how you're feeling on any given day. If you have an injury, a physical limitation or simply need a different option, Heather is always able to suggest suitable alternatives.
That flexibility makes the classes accessible and supportive for a wide range of abilities and experience levels.
Keeping Moving for the Future
For me, OsteoPilates Cornwall has become an important part of staying active and looking after my long-term health.
The classes help keep me flexible, mobile and strong, allowing me to continue doing the things I enjoy with greater comfort and confidence.
Pilates keeps me from seizing up!
Pilates has made a difference to my everyday life.
